I work with eating disorders as well as people struggling with emotional over-eating, and body image concerns.I help people to reduce disordered eating by finding a balance between over-indulgence(bingeing) and deprivation (short-term dieting), and to establish a healthier relationship withfood and their bodies. I work with people to identify and overcome psychological barriersand triggers, decrease obsessive thoughts about weight and food, increase problem-solvingskills to manage triggers and cravings and break habits, and learn to manage difficultthoughts and feelings without using food.For more information about this approach please see www.foodandfeelings.co.nzI work in an empathic, non-judgmental way, using a mix of solution-focused, narrativeand cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT-e) and am also trained in mindfulness and relaxationtechniques.Although my focus is on disordered eating, I also work extensively with anxiety anddepression.I have a bachelor of arts (psychology), a bachelor of commerce, a master of counselling and psychotherapy, specialist training in CBT-e for Binge-Eating Disorder and Bulimia Nervosa, and Family-Based Therapy and Specialist Supportive Clinical Management for Anorexia Nervosa.
