Document Control is about reducing costs through improved efficiency, it’s about increasing quality standards, it’s about increasing compliance and it’s about reducing risk for the organisation. That statement is for those that wonder what a good Document Controller does all day!Always having been a methodical, logical, meticulous and process-driven person, I found the move from my previous career as a Secretary and Administrator, to that of Document Controller, a natural and highly rewarding progression.I find the role of Document Controller not only utilises the skills I’ve developed over the years, but also feeds my desire to meet targets. I’m results-driven, the setting of daily challenges motivates me and I enjoy the accomplishment of exceeding goals. This work ethic often mirrors my personal life, as I constantly challenge myself physically and try to stretch my grey matter by reading widely and solving puzzles.Just a few of the skills that have brought me success so far:►Attention to Detail: an often-used phrase but one that is extremely important in this role. Even though I have a well-trained eye for the fine detail, I never lose sight of the big picture.►Managing Conflicting Priorities: having excellent time management and organisational skills help meet the demands of the project environment.►Interpersonal: communicating and building relationships that last are essential for long-term goals. Interacting with business-wide departments is part of the job.►Flexible and Adaptable – an ability to tackle new tasks with enthusiasm and to maintain that mindset when under a lot of pressure.I see the benefits of Document Control first-hand and my longer-term goal would be to start a Consultancy, creating a central source of exceptional Document Controllers to aid businesses.
