Teaching task: Phytotherapy (Pharmaceutical Sciences)

Postdoctoral Researcher at the lab of NatuRA (Natural products and food Research and Analysis).In view of the REVICO (Revisiting Cocoa) project, I was responsible for the assessment of the fate of phytochemicals (polyphenols, alkaloids, biogenic amines, etc.) by means of UPLC-HRMS and NMR of various cocoa products. The cocoa products were collected throughout the entire chocolate production process and included unfermented, fermented and roasted cocoa beans, cocoa liquors and chocolates.

My PhD thesis is entitled "Isolation, structure elucidation, antiplasmodial activity and AGEs inhibiting properties of cyclopeptide alkaloids. The research concerns the fractionation, isolation and structure elucidation of a specific type of natural products, namely cyclopeptide alkaloids, by means of various chromatographic (flash chromatography, semi-preparative HPLC-DAD-MS and LC-SPE-NMR) and spectroscopic (NMR, MS) techniques. Assessment of the antiplasmodial activities of the purified compounds showed significant activities for some of the tested alkaloids. This research was funded by the IWT (current FWO).
