Mauro Dominguez Email and Phone Number
I have master's on Electronics Engineering. Since I graduated, 4 years ago, I have been working with Slicer on Medical Software for researchers. My early work has focused on coding programs for virtual surgical plans (VSP) of bone surgeries (e.g. mandible reconstruction, vertebral pedicle screws insertion, long bone deformity correction) and the design of patient specific surgical guides to achieve the virtual plan results. My current work, has shifted slightly, to create segmentations and surgical plans of abdominal soft-tissue organs for clinicians doing research. All these has required tight interaction with clinicians: understanding their needs, communicating with their vocabulary, simplifying and streamlining the GUI, etc.I have contributed to Slicer main codebase and a few extensions; configured servers to run AI models such as 3D medical image (e.g. CT, MRI) segmentation tools; and I've done and do consulting for businesses that want an introduction on how to leverage the Slicer platform to use it as foundation of their medical software.

The planned screws are shown over 2D Slices (axial, sagittal and coronal) and a 3D view with realistic rendering of the spine. A PDF report detailing the surgical plan can be generated. There is also a simplified segmentation GUI to create the guidebases (those are the parts of the surgical guides that will touch the vertebraes and that mimic their shape for good fit).At last, there is GUI to create the surgical guide objects (drill guides, stability boxes, text labels) and to create the surgical guides. Each surgical guide has a guide base, two drill guides, a stability box that joins them, helpful text extrusions (like patientID, patientName, screwSizes, drillBitSizes, vertebraeLevel), optional are the bridge cylinders that may improve contact between the drill guides and the guide base,All this code is part of a Slicelet, a group of custom Slicer modules with personalized GUI. Slicer is a free, open source and multi-platform software package widely used for medical, biomedical, and related imaging research.
