Coastal Protection Department | Capability Building Division I am working in the team that manages and coordinates the $125 million Coastal Protection and Flood Management Research Programme, overseeing its complete lifecycle. This involved strategic research planning, project initiation, managing proposal evaluations, ensuring optimal project selection, and initiating seamless project execution. I played a role in fostering collaborative efforts with Institutes of Higher Learning (IHLs) and industry leaders, specializing in nature-based solutions. This collaborative approach contributed significantly to the development of a robust knowledge base for addressing the challenges posed by climate change and sea-level rise in Singapore. Additionally, I supported technology translation initiatives through collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, enhancing the practical application of research outcomes. Engaging in R&D collaborations with external stakeholders, I actively contributed to enhancing national capabilities in the development of coastal protection solutions. I also established and nurtured partnerships, both public and private, that played a key role in advancing solutions tailored to address Singapore's unique challenges in the face of climate change and rising sea levels.

Coastal Protection Department | Masterplanning and Regulatory DivisionIn my role, I have undertaken responsibilities to fortify Singapore's resilience against climate-induced inland and coastal flooding. I was part of the team to develop robust, long-term coastal protection strategies by engaging with external planning agencies and internal stakeholders, contributing to the formulation of a comprehensive coastal protection research masterplan. I focused on integrating Nature-based solutions along the coastline, identifying key opportunity areas for sustainable and innovative interventions. To ensure strategic alignment, my work included reviewing project development consultation cases, ensuring they adhere to best practices and align with our strategic objectives. I was also involved in strengthening departmental capabilities through various initiatives, including convening the Coastal Protection Expert Panel to leverage diverse expertise for strategic decision-making. Additionally, I coordinated engagements with US authorities, facilitating knowledge exchange for the adoption of international best practices, and facilitated exchanges with industry players to enhance internal competencies and stay at the forefront of industry advancements. As part of my responsibilities, I also managed R&D projects in coastal protection, ensuring they met objectives, deliverables, timeline, and added significant value to PUB.

Catchment & Waterways DepartmentAs an engineer, I was an advocate for sustainable water management practices, particularly in the realms of Active, Beautiful, Clean Waters (ABC Waters) and Low Impact Development (LID). Proactively engaging with public agencies and private developers, I promoted the widespread adoption of ABC Waters and LID concepts, contributing to enhanced environmental resilience. My role in industry engagement initiatives for the ABC Waters Programme encompasses the management of the ABC Waters Certification scheme, orchestration of ABC Waters Professional courses, formulation of ABC Waters Design Guidelines, and successful organization of the biennial ABC Waters Seminar at the Singapore International Water Week. Leveraging my technical knowledge, I have played a role in assessing design and hydraulic calculations for ABC Waters design features, with a specialization in LID and Green Stormwater Infrastructure. A key part of my job was to ensure the quality and compliance of development submissions, emphasizing the importance of sustainable design principles. My project experiences includes oversight and management of both ABC Waters – Drainage projects and Research & Development projects, showcasing a holistic approach to project management that integrates sustainable design principles into both implementation and innovation within the realm of Green Stormwater Infrastructure.

In my role, I was involved in Catchment Water Quality Management by conducting compilation and in-depth analysis of reservoir water quality data. This involved identifying trends, patterns, and anomalies, providing valuable insights for strategic decision-making. Additionally, I offered support in various water quality monitoring projects across western catchments, actively participating in data collection, analysis, and interpretation to ensure the accuracy and reliability of monitoring data. My responsibilities extended to conducting detailed assessments of the impact of hazardous substances on water quality and aquatic life. Leveraging analytical skills, I evaluated potential threats and recommended mitigation measures to safeguard the protection and sustainability of aquatic ecosystems. I was also supporting the compilation of farm information to develop stormwater runoff management strategies for farms in Sungei Tengeh, Lim Chu Kang, and Murai Farmland. This effort aimed at promoting excellence in agricultural and stormwater management practices, contributing to enhanced sustainability and environmental resilience in these areas.

In my capacity, I was involved including conducting comprehensive market research, preparing impactful, and performing data compilation and analysis. A key contribution involved the design of program materials, where I played a role in creating and updating the solution guide for energy efficiency in buildings, ensuring the dissemination of information. I engaged with small businesses, offering education on cost-effective energy efficiency measures. Through these initiatives, I facilitated connections to incentive and rebate programs, actively contributing to the promotion of sustainable practices among businesses and driving positive change in the energy sector through strategic support and educational outreach.
