Current: Project manager and highway accident investigator in the office of highway safety at the NTSB. In the role of a project manager, I write reports that are presented to Board members for adoption. In the role of an investigator, I investigate primarily automated vehicle-related crashes and write factual reports.Years ago:I have more than seven years of experience developing, designing and conducting studies in the area of human factors, usability and cognitive psychology. I received a Ph.D. in Psychology in 2009 from University of Illinois with focus on visual cognition and human performance. The main area of my expertise addresses the ways that humans perceive and interact with their technologically-laden environment within various contexts and seek ways to improve their perceptual, cognitive and motor processes. As a specialty, I am an expert in driver attention and distraction, as well as age-related differences, especially as it relates to the visual and cognitive distraction, from internal or external sources.Some of my immediate areas of expertise include: - Display design and usability - Driver distraction, attention, visual perception and interaction with in-vehicle systems - Age-related differences across broad spectrum of areas and topics - Design of large-scale studies, advanced statistical analyses - Writing – journal manuscripts, proposals, tech reportsSpecialties: Human factors, display design; Research design, statistics; Cognitive psychology, attention, aging.
