Coordination errors result in major project delays and overruns. However, contemporary consultancies rarely take effective measures to avoid such situations. I performed a study with BECA (Auckland) to improve collaboration within design teams in the construction industry. The study resulted in the development of a conceptual model called Virtual Knotworking (ViKW) – a model that can allow design participants to interact and coordinate design work in real time.

Involved during the construction stage.Yeun Long Station Noise Barrier ProjectClient: Mass Transit Railway & Meinhardt Infrastructure and Environmental Limited.Description: Development of a cycling hub/rental (single story) near the MTR station in Yuen long as an additional leisure activity for the Yuen Long community.Key responsibilities:• Design of low voltage distribution systems including LV switchgear, distribution  boards, transformers and emergency generators.• Perform cable selection and sizing. • Design of the extra low voltage systems including security systems, surveillance systems  and emergency communication systems. • Coordination of electrical services with mechanical, civil, structural, architectural and   hydraulic disciplines.• Design of interior and exterior lighting works in compliance with BS EN5266, IESNA   Standard 90.1-2007 and local codes.• Simulation work using DIalux/AGI32.• Preparation of various other design/tender reports.

Worked with HKU and CLP to analyse insolation data collected over several years to predict best times when solar power could be utilised to feed the grid in Hong Kong.
