Coordinator of information received by the IAEA regarding the nuclear safety and security of Nuclear Facilities based on the IAEA Seven Indispensable Pillars for ensuring Nuclear Safety and Security during an armed conflict. The outputs of the work included regular reports (daily, weekly, and ad-hoc) consisting of summaries of all information for varying levels of internal management (section head to Director General) and various audiences (technical, Member States, and/or the public).Furthermore, I coordinated communications with the IAEA teams deployed in the field and at various nuclear facilities internationally, including liaising with the Technical Coordinator of the Department of Nuclear Safety and Security to ensure that teams are prepared to be deployed. I also maintained the databases pertaining to information on the status of nuclear facilities based on the Seven Pillars and events affecting (or potentially affecting) the nuclear safety and security of said nuclear facilities.

As a Nuclear Safety Officer I work within the Safety and Security Coordination Section of the Department of Nuclear Safety and Security. My duties are focused primarily upon capacity building projects, which include activities within each of the four (4) pillars of capacity building, namely: Education and Training, Human Resource Development, Knowledge Management, Knowledge Networks. More specifically:-I have coordinated the completion of the update and revision of the Basic Professional Training Course on Nuclear Safety.-Assisted in the planning for the 2016 International Conference on Effective Nuclear Regulatory Systems to be held in Vienna, Austria.-Coordinated the delivery of departmental inputs into reports for agency management such as updates on projects for the Peaceful Use Initiative, briefings for the IAEA General Conference and Director General, and progress reports on the Nuclear Safety Action Plan.

As a Civil Aviation Program Manager I work within the Technical Program Evaluation Coordination (TPEC) group providing support to the Transport Canada - Civil Aviation's (TCCA) national programs. More specifically, I support:-Safety Management System (SMS) regulatory program; and-The national surveillance program.With respect to SMS, I have:-Provided guidance with respect to the implementation and oversight of SMS regulations.-Participated in coordinating working groups that oversee the progress of SMS regulations across Canada.-Performed research concerning what other countries have achieved vis-a-vis SMS implementation within the civil aviation industry.With respect to the surveillance program, I have:-Developed and delivered a national training program covering the revised surveillance procedures. Subjects covered included surveillance policies, procedures, tools and templates.-In coordination with a working group, designed and developed a national surveillance policy and planning standard for the development of a risk-based, data-driven surveillance plan. This includes the development of criteria for determining risk-based surveillance intervals as well as the procedure and tools for the creation of an annual surveillance plan which includes a 5-year outlook.-Revised the national surveillance procedures used by all TCCA inspectors. This includes the development of process-flow diagrams to depict all relevant aspects of the surveillance process as well as all supporting templates and tools.

While working with ISR, I have focused in two (2) areas:-Management Systems; and-Nuclear Emergency Preparedness and Response.With respect to management systems, I have:-Designed, developed and implemented a number of safety management systems for a range of civil aviation assets (e.g. airports, airlines, etc.) both domestically and internationally-Designed and developed a number of training programs concerning safety management processes (e.g. risk assessment and root cause investigation)-Designed, developed and implemented a regulatory management system for the civil aviation authority of Kuwait-Performed a number of management system regulatory reviews and auditsWith respect to nuclear emergency and preparedness and response, I have:-Assisted in the development of several nuclear emergency and counter-terrorism exercises

While working for AECL, I fulfilled three (3) main roles.1 - Auditor-in-TrainingIn this role, I assisted in the development of audit plans and was a member of the audit team for nuclear compliance audits. The focus of these audits was human performance.2 - Licensing EngineerIn this role, I was part of a team that ensured the facility for which I worked (a medical isotope producing reactor undergoing commissioning) was in compliance with all applicable nuclear regulations. This included regular correspondence with the Canadian Nuclear Regulator, regular technical reviews and an active role in the licensing of the facility.3 - Corrective Action CoordinatorIn this role, I reviewed event reports, monitored the health of the reporting and corrective action program and participated in a number of root cause analyses/investigations.
