Served as the Senior Database Administrator for mission-critical databases used by the Colorado Community College System related to both state and internal reporting. Designed strong backup strategies minimizing downtime in case of disaster. Designed and developed various solutions to maximize efficiency relative to batch jobs and their corresponding windows. Proactively monitored database resource usage using Oracle Grid Control avoiding break-fix downtime and potential database outages. Performed regular backups, patch maintenance, database migrations, and upgrades according to Oracle’s best practices in a Red Hat Enterprise Linux Environment.● Performed performance tuning, capacity planning, data modeling and database design in addition to administration of third party database software.● Created custom PL/SQL solutions allowing for the automation of EDW snapshots, improved query times, parallel data loads, and custom alerts when in-house processes/applications malfunctioned or failed. Worked with applications and development teams to assure production applications were unaffected.● Upgraded BI databases from 11.2.0.2 to 11.2.0.4.● Administered Oracle Streams replication with consistent throughput of 3,000,000 daily transactions. ● Leveraged Oracle Support as needed to correct issues inherent to Oracle software as well as identify bugs and other various incompatibilities within the System’s architecture. Served as the Database Administrator of the Banner Operational Data Store (ODS) and Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) database, specifically the installation, upgrading, diagnosis, resolution, and customization of all associated Oracle database software and any respective issues. Scheduled and designed a backup strategy specific to the BPRA databases and other BI databases.● Effectively wrote and used SQL and PL/SQL as necessitated by basic, advanced, and various mission critical database administration tasks in a Windows environment. Used various tools including TOAD, SQL+, and Oracle SQL Developer.● Administration of Oracle RDBMS, OEM, and Streams in a Windows shop running on HP Blade servers. Experience extends into utilizing Oracle RDBMS on both physical as well as in virtualized environments. Familiarity with back-end disk systems including local disks, Hewlett Packard SANs, and mixed environments.● Installation, creation, and upgrading of Oracle databases & instances in both Oracle 10g as well as 11g. Worked on a team of 25 persons in a 24/7 Networking Operations Center (NOC). More specifically, served as a specialist for Oracle Database break/fix issues on versions 9i/10g. Typical tasks included troubleshooting and correction of replication issues, creation of indices, and extension of tablespaces in a Solaris environment.● Responsible for troubleshooting and correction of break/fix issues relative to mission criticaldatabases, applications, and production systems.● Proactively provided database support and shared knowledge with other engineers in a fast paced, high stress NOC environment.● Worked extensively with Tier 2 and Tier 3 engineers in an effort to further knowledge of OracleRDBMS and middleware.
