I conduct individual, group and family therapy sessions designed to meet the needs of the individuals, couples and families involved. I try to work closely with involved medical practitioners (PCP's) as well as other service entities (such as DHS and the local Tribe, etc) as a sort of case manager facilitating growth in the areas needed. My practice is primarily Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) oriented; (Goal and Values directed.) I believe that; just as we ignore one thing by focusing on another, we can un-hook ourselves from current difficulties, by (in-part) focusing and directing our thoughts and (more importantly) our behaviors on what we truly value. Most people already possess the ability, but may simply need to develop new skills to replace old and no longer effective behaviors, thoughts and choices.

Provide behavioral health treatment in all areas SPMI and other basic life needs.

I conduct assessments in the emergency department on individuals experiencing psychiatric emergencies. The primary objective is to determine any existing dangerousness to self or others. The secondary objective is to then determine treatment needs and refer to appropriate and effective treatment alternatives. This is accomplished by interviewing patients, family and other service providers as possible, in addition to gathering any available and relevant medical and psychiatric.

I developed and instructed undergraduate classes in behavioral sciences. Teaching primarily engineering students my hope was to help them benefit from an understanding of both psychology and sociology. In this role I grew in my understanding of the need for these fields to work more closely together.

I provided mental health services to adults with mental and emotional disabilities; which included crisis assessments at the Access Center, the County Jail and in the Emergency Department at Sky Lakes Medical Center. I worked closely with a team of case workers and support staff, and a wide variety of public service agencies to attain appropriate interventions while following state and federal guidelines. It was my position to initiate immediate intervention and stabilization in emergency cases, and to triage and follow acute needs. I initiated and provided outpatient treatments in both acute and Severe and Persistent Mental Illness (SPMI) cases, including both individual and group psycho-therapies using predominantly an ACT and DBT orientation. I completed civil commitment investigations as a State certified Pre-Commitment Investigator and court appointed Mental Health Examiner, and frequently testified as a professional witness. In addition I coordinated treatment and follow up services with numerous community agencies; Networking other professionals (such as DHS- Child Welfare, physicians, care providers, employers, schools and other therapists, etc).

Responsible for the day to day clinical operations of 24 licensed residential group homes, serving people experiencing developmental disabilities, physical and mental and emotional difficulties. During this period I made significant program design changes and implemented numerous improvements to services provided. Including the elimination of numerous mid-level management positions. This allowed quicker and more effective responses to client needs. Clients were also seen on an outpatient type basis, and programs were facilitated resulting in numerous team projects designed to improve services. I oversaw quality control of all services provided, and developed resources for agency staff to improve their clinical skills in therapeutic training and behavior management. I implemented systems designed to enhance communications between various agency departments and external entities (such as regulatory agencies and other service providers). I also had the pleasure of developing and using several training curriculums for use in orientation of new professional staff.

Here I had the opportunity to serve in all aspects of this non-profit agency whose goals were 1) to improve services being provided to people with developmental disabilities, and 2) to educate the community of these needs thus facilitating a more thorough approach to. In this role I developed numerous programs for community education and staff training.
