I am a highly motivated and dedicated scientist, with a unique and strong background in both chemistry and biology. I did my undergraduate degree in chemistry and transitioned into graduate school, applying my chemistry knowledge to the biological and physiological problem of oxygen sensing. Thus, my graduate degree being in biology is somewhat of a misnomer, as I now consider myself a biochemist. My undergraduate research led to three publications, including a first-author paper, thereby essentially beginning graduate school two years early. Throughout my graduate school career, which won me the highly competitive National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship Program award in my first year, I have continued to use this combination of chemistry and biology knowledge to compile 15 total publications. My unique combination of skills, along with my unrelenting drive to solve problems are some of my many desirable attributes. However, my ability to translate lab-based solutions and apply them to real-world problems, including the issues applying the unregulated nature of patients vs. the lab, makes me an even stronger candidate for basic drug discovery research. Furthermore, my career has shown me that the integration between disciplines is the true key to next generation research, allowing for cross-fertilization of ideas, and thus reaching results in an expedited fashion. For instance, given my background in helping with testing of a hydrogen sulfide-donating drug, I assisted in the drug development and testing, which expedited the drug into clinical trials. More recently, I have taken my talents into the clinical research and orthopaedic medical device world, with a specific focus on medical writing. I was an adjunct professor at the Indiana University School of Medicine, teaching Anatomy, giving me a unique advantage when writing on various orthopaedic implants. I have authored over 30 CEP/CERs, as well as written numerous notified body (GMED and BSI) responses. My graduate school background makes me particularly talented at systematic literature searches and reviews for SOTA development and clinical data collection and statistical analysis/clinical strategy.
