My role as the production geologist is to work in collaboration with operations and technical teams including extraction, tailings, mine planning, reclamation, and projects groups, in order to provide an optimal and consistent ore blend to the plant. Responsibilities within this position include:- Daily field tours validating the geological model using field observations and making ore/waste delineation field calls in order to support an optimal bitumen blend sent to the plant- Verify material contacts in the field, ensure designed shovel surfaces match geological model- Record and validate model discrepancies in order to assist reconciliation between mining, extraction, and upgrading- Classify material based on field observations in order to assist geotechnical groups during dyke and dump construction- Act as first contact in the event of in pit seep emergencies; monitor base of feed shovels, sample water inflows, escalate geohazard protocol when required

Joined Canadian Natural Resources as a student core logger for the Horizon Mine. Over this term I logged ~80 core from Horizon’s South and North pits, as well as logged legacy core using the limited petrophysical suite and dean stark data. Tasks following the core program included quality checking core data from 2001 to 2014, reassigning facies and reinterpreting the depositional system, in order to create a consistent, high quality dataset to build the mine model. - Log core drilled through the full McMurray Formation interval within the North and South pits of the Horizon Mine- Collected core data will be integrated into a 3D geologic model to form the basis for ore and waste management planning, and mine bench construction - Utilize Tarcore DigitCore software to record the facies, lithology, sedimentary structure, bioturbation, and accessories within the McMurray Formation- Interpret the vertical facies distribution and the associated depositional environments- Select samples for dean stark, PSA, and SI analysis based on facies and ore body distribution- Assign facies and depth correct legacy wells using the petrophysical log suite and dean stark data- Quality check previously logged core from 2001 to 2014 for consistency in facies assigned and depositional interpretations

I had the opportunity to work with Cenovus Energy within the Geological Optimization team. My project was focused on evaluating drainage patterns, penetration depths, rise rates, and ultimate recovery factors in the non-rich facies of the McMurray Formation. By integrating an extensive data set from the full surveillance suite, including steam core, thermocouples, RST logs, and 4D seismic, I was able to effectively contributed to gaining better understanding of passive drainage and steam chamber development within non-rich facies of the McMurray Formation.

University Of Alberta

I conducted a detailed core study of the McMurray Formation. The project objective was to use core and well log data with published literature and seismic data, in order to create detailed paleodepositional interpretations of estuarine point bars within the McMurray Formation.
