In my current role as an educator for Fulton County Schools, I've had the experience to work with the community and to demonstrate a positive example of what an educator should be in an urban school district. This has given me the chance to create great techniques to teach children and parents from various socioeconomic and racial backgrounds. While working as a Facilitator at the Family Technology Resource Center in DeKalb County, I worked with parents in low income areas find work by educating them in learning how to prepare for a job such as knowing how to use a computer at work to how to conduct them in an interview. As an English teacher and Writing Coach, I gave many of my students the opportunity to express themselves through the writing process and helped those who did not have a passion for writing find that hidden talent. Also, I was involved in creating benchmark tests for students in DeKalb County Schools for ELA. In addition, I've had the opportunity to teach at various schools ranging from Title I Distinguished Schools to International Baccalaureate Schools. As a Site Coordinator for Fulton County Schools, I've had the pleasure to be in a school leadership role. My responsibilities gauged from SST and RTI processes for level one and remedial students implementing best practices for teachers to help struggling students become stronger students in the classroom with positive results. I also have experience in case management with students as well. I was also responsible in providing services for students and families ranging from behavior, food vouchers, and other social services. Lastly, I have experience in creating relationships with nonprofits, local businesses and local government entities ranging from Porsche of America, MARTA, Kroger, Publix, Wal-Mart and Barnes and Noble, and Chik-Fil-A to help provide supplies and other academic and behavior incentives for urban low income schools.
