I'm very proud of my time in Canada's professional, non-partisan civil service. It was an immense privilege to "hold the pen" on tax legislation that impacted taxpayers across the country and a responsibility I took seriously each day. I worked with brilliant, dedicated colleagues as part of a small team that was involved in legislative drafting and formulating tax policy in international tax as part of the Tax Legislation Division's inbound international group.

In the first few years of my career, I worked with some of the best of the best. True legends of the tax bar. I couldn't have asked for a better start to my tax career. I also met my wife there! My practice was focused on advising clients in tax disputes at the audit, objection, and litigation stages. I also maintained a tax planning and advisory practice where I advised clients on a range of Canadian income tax issues in the corporate mergers and acquisitions, private equity and pension funds contexts. My practice touched on a broad array of substantive tax issues including interest deductibility, the GAAR, transfer pricing, and expense characterization.
