Clinical work with adjudicated and substance abusing youths and their families. Provided short-term, strengths-based interventions to assist teens in remaining abstinent, succeed academically and socially, and improve family functioning. Therapy takes place in the client’s home or in correctional institutions where the youth is placed. Work collaboratively with detention facilities and their staff, Probation officers, court officials, teachers and guidance counselors. Appear in court for the teen, generating court reports and treatment updates. Receive twice monthly trainings from the Ackerman Institute for the Family.

Clinical work with adjudicated and substance abusing youths and their families. Provide clinical supervision to full-time therapists, and field instruction to graduate and undergraduate social work students. Oversee both agency- and university-based documentation requirements, including treatment plans, court reporting, and process recordings. Organize and lead regular clinical meetings, internally and with government partners. Participate in training new therapists, hiring and interviewing, as well as strategic planning for the agency. Facilitate outside technical assistance representing the Vera Institute of Justice.

Facilitate weekly therapeutic groups aimed at serving the needs of New York City’s LGBT population. Facilitate three groups, an early recovery group for GBT men, a harm reduction group for substance abusing GBT men, and “Learning, Coping, Healing” which serves LGBT people dealing with mental illness. Provide supervision to social work and psychology interns, specifically on group facilitation and group dynamics.

Provided clinical and case management services to youth in foster care, living in one of two transitional group homes, with independent living as goal. One of the homes for girls, age 15-20, and the other a home for GBT boys, aged 14-20. Accompany children to court hearings, both criminal and family, advocate for youth in the child welfare system, and provide linkages with services necessary to successful independent living. Lead treatment team meetings 8 times annually for each of the 12 youth on my caseload, as well as participate in biannual service plan meetings. Provide supervisory services to staff of both residences.

Provided case management, counseling services, as well as advocacy work for blind and visually impaired clients at a HUD residence for the blind. Assisted clients in navigating Social Security system. Facilitated group for adjusting to blindness, and founded and facilitated group for LGBT people who are blind and visually impaired, focusing on intersection of disability and sexuality.
