I am a motivated and hard-working individual with over 5+ years of lab experience post-graduation. I graduated with my BS in Biology in 2019 from UC Merced. Right after graduation, I accepted a full time position in the developmental immunology lab finishing a project that I had started during my undergraduate education. During this time I learned mouse handling skills such as blood collection, injections and pregnancy tracking; I also developed ELISA protocols and started getting experience in flow cytometric analysis and sorting. This project was published in 2022 in Cell Reports. After completing this job, I took a job at UCSF in a hematology/ocology lab. Here I studied the effects of chromosomal deletions on the development of leukemia and other myeloid diseases. I designed/utilized 8+ color flow panels to analyze blood and hematopoietic cell populations in addition to gaining more experience in different mouse models and cancer models. I also helped co-supervise the building's X-ray irradiator and helped train new users on this machine. After this, I decided to pursue a new opportunity in a onoco-immunolgy lab at the University of Utah where we study the potential use of both immunologic and pharmaceutic interventions for gastric and colon cancer. We also study other gastrointestinal diseases, more specifically Crohn's and colitis. Here I gained much experience in in-vivo tumor models as well as the primary culture of cells and tissues as well as in-vitro culture of different cancer cell lines. I also had the opportunity to lead a project studying how the in-vitro use of MK2 inhibitors on Crohn's tissue biopsies resulted in decreased MMP expression which consequently regulated T-cell activation. This project was also published in 2022 in Pharmaceuticals.
