I am a scientist and an engineer with the ability to work across disciplines to solve tough problems, including in the fields of biomaterials, carbon capture and utilization, implantable medical devices, drug discovery, and food insecurity. I am currently a graduate student pursuing a PhD in Biological Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, in the lab of Prof. Angela Belcher, where I focus on the biologically-mediated synthesis of high performance materials for renewable energy applications. As a biological engineering student, I also recently completed a semester-long research experience at Pfizer, Inc. in the Kendall Square area of Cambridge, MA. Previously, I worked for four years for W.L. Gore & Associates in their Medical Products Division, where I was a process engineer working primarily in new product development for a Class 3 implantable device. My past areas of focus include biomaterials research, especially in the cardiovascular environment. I am also a social entrepreneur: my team's venture, FlashFood, won recognition and funding from the U.S. Microsoft Imagine Cup, Dell Social Innovation Challenge, and the Arizona State University Edson Student Entrepreneurship Accelerator. FlashFood works to fight hunger and reduce food waste, by rapidly coordinating the delivery of prepared, perishable foods, while creating value for donating businesses through tax breaks and marketing opportunities.
