Support park conservation/maintenance and environmental restoration of a state park that encompasses a 60-acre lake, hiking trails, camping and picnicking areas, and an animal sanctuary. Maintenance activities include trail building, lawn care, wildland fire fighting, clearing fallen/dead tree, and general maintenance and seasonal preparation of park facilities. Environmental restoration activities include tree planning, care of rescued animals, and planting estuarine flora. Present educational programs and presentations to the park visitors and school and youth groups on environmental literacy, wildlife and the historical nature of the area. Develop and present Scales and Tales Programs. Assist park visitors by overseeing facility and equipment use, responding to questions on park use and policy, ensuring safe behavior, and being prepared for emergency medical response. Maintained and monitored two parks with playgrounds, picnic areas, restrooms, and boat docks. Provided general maintenance, landscaping, and cleaning of parks. Interacted with the public to inform visitors of park policies and regulations, respond to general questions, and provide assistance as needed. Supported events, including public concerts, at the park.

Salisbury, Md

Counted, monitored and photographed bird species and individual birds at the Deal Island Wildlife Management Area. Observed behaviors and analyzed trends to support ornithological research by biology department faculty members. Presented research entitled “Annotated Checklist of the Birds of Deal Island Wildlife Management Area and Monie Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve” at the 2014 Salisbury University Student Research Conference.

Pocomoke, Md

Led group tours of the center to teach visitors about the natural environment and cultural heritage of the Delmarva region. Researched, created, and presented interpretive presentations on local flora and fauna to youth groups. Cared for and monitored various snakes, turtles, amphibians and fish, including dietary, habitat, and general health needs. Provided general maintenance and administrative support for the daily functioning of the center.
