● Developed and implemented statewide and national strategies for advancing anti-hunger policy goals, including: -Advancing policies and legislation that brought down barriers to accessing programs such as SNAP (food stamps), Supplemental Security Income, Medicaid, School Nutrition programs, and The Emergency Food Assistance Program (direct food aid to food banks). -Fighting state and federal budget cuts to the aforementioned anti-hunger and poverty programs.● Built relationships with, lobbied, briefed, and testified before Members of Congress, California state legislators, and state and federal agency officials and their staff on ant-hunger and poverty policies.● Developed and shepherded legislation and budget priorities through the California state legislature, including: -Legislation providing tax incentives for farmers who donate fresh produce to food banks. -Legislation allowing food banks to benefit from the taxpayer donations when filing annual state taxes. -Securing a funding stream through the California budget process for food banks to directly purchase fresh and healthy food items.● Supervised Sacramento-based state lobbyist, one Policy Associate, and several interns and consultants.● Led efforts to rally and organize the resources of our 40 member food bank network to advance anti-hunger policy goals through both grasstops and grassroots advocacy strategies.● Conducted trainings and workshops on the legislative process and effective advocacy strategies for our membership and allies, and advised membership on how to advance policy and advocacy efforts in their local communities.● Worked in coalition with a host of statewide and national groups.●Led regular meetings of membership, including monthly policy calls, quarterly briefings to our Board; organized CAFB’s annual Legislative Day in Sacramento and a track of policy workshops for the bi-annual conference.

● Implemented the state party field plan for Seattle in coordination with John Kerry for President, Patty Murray for Senate and Christine Gregoire for Governor.● Managed outreach and organizing of the 40,000 students on the University of Washington campus.● Directed political and grassroots outreach to the LGBT community and advised senior campaign staff on related issues.● Built and managed a database of over 2,000 volunteers for central Seattle geographic areas to which I was assigned.● Planned and implemented nightly phone banks and canvasses/precinct walks each weekend.

● Tracked and Analyzed state and local legislation in the areas of education and LGBT policy.● Provided strategic advice on advancing and passing legislation to GLSEN staff, allies and grassroots youth and adult advocates in order to promote GLSEN’s policy effort of assuring schools are free from harassment and discrimination.● Conducted trainings and workshops on the legislative process for the Network’s youth and adult leadership teams and advised these teams on how to advance advocacy efforts in their communities.● Developed and wrote resources and provided technical assistance to grassroots youth and adult advocates regarding pending education and LGBT legislation, enabling them to effectively lobby for such laws at the state and local level.● Facilitated weekly staff team meetings that generated local, state and federal online alerts, which allowed GLSEN members to lobby their elected officials; authored a majority of the correspondence targeting federal and state officials.

● Tracked legislation and advised Member on legislative policy in the issue areas of education, transportation, veterans’ affairs, government reform, campaign finance reform, and science and space.● Researched and briefed Member on pending legislation in issue areas; acted as liaison between Member and federal, state and local agencies as well as constituents and other interested non-profit and lobbying organizations.● Drafted legislation and created strategies to advance it through the legislative process; composed speeches, opening statements and correspondence to federal agencies, committee chairmen and constituents.● Managed the office computer network and database, including management of all office software and hardware.● Directed thousands of constituent inquiries and correspondence through the office mail system.

National Network for Youth (March 1999-August 1999), Washington, DC ● Advocated for runaway/homeless and juvenile justice youth policy on the state and federal levels. ● Tracked legislation, attended hearings and participated in national coalition meeting s and strategy sessions. ● Disseminated policy information and positions to the Network membership through the Network’s online communications system and through writing, editing and distributing the quarterly newsletter. ● Took part in planning the Network’s annual conference and communications strategy.Farm Share (August 1998-March 1999), Florida City, FL ● Expanded Farm Share’s services – the recovery and redistribution of nutritious produce to people in need – to a new central Florida location by conducting a needs assessment and building relationships with both farmers and community-based service providers such as food banks, shelters, soup kitchens and meal delivery programs. ● Implemented a new citywide food drive and MLK Day Health Fair for the south Florida communities of Florida City and Homestead. ● Implemented a press strategy meant to educate the Miami/Dade community about the existence of food insecurity and hunger.
