Provision of internal consultancy services and radio modelling expertise for projects of interest to Vodafone. Skill set includes radio planning, propagation modelling, radio system simulation and modelling and RF co-existence analysis. I also managed the RF test facilities for Group R&D’s lab facility.Projects included:■ Developing a coverage model for GPRS and Paknet to support Vodafone’s bid to become the communication service provider (CSP) for DECC’s smart meter programme.■ Planning a trial using dedicated trackside TD-LTE technology as the backhaul for in-train WiFi services.■ Developing an Atoll model of small cell and heterogeneous deployments and calibrating this with external data, including signal strength and traffic measurements. Technologies modelled included UMTS, LTE and WiFi.■ Support to Vodafone UK in their responses to Ofcom’s many 800 / 2600 MHz consultations.■ Developing a model of radio coverage variation with carrier frequency, and contributing to studies on the value of 2.6 GHz and 3.5 GHz spectrum.■ Technology evaluations, including broadcast technologies (DVB-H, MBMS), LTE, UWB, MIMO and relays.■ LTE studies, including frequency re-use, load balancing, joint site scheduling and provision of fixed wireless broadband services.■ RF co-existence studies, including 2.6 GHz LTE FDD / TDD co-existence, UHF broadcast / LTE interference and 870 – 876 MHz SRD / cellular co-siting, including lab verification of theoretical predictions.
