A valued professional mentor put entrepreneurship on my radar shortly after I graduated from UCLA in 1991 with joint Law and MBA degrees. She emphasized that running your own firm or company was a wonderful path to personal fulfillment, not to mention financial success. Over the next 13 years, that thought never left my mind, even as I enjoyed some very rewarding positions related to law, business and commercial real estate. My first entrepreneurial leap came in 2004 when I formed my commercial real estate firm, The Nesbitt Commercial Group. Shortly after that, since I wanted to give equal attention to my law career, I opened my law firm, Law Offices of Eric L. Nesbitt, P.C., with a focus on real estate law. Combining these two areas of expertise, I can offer my legal and real estate clients a more holistic view of their situation, options, and strategy. From the beginning, though, I established a strict ethical policy of never representing a client as both an attorney and a broker in the same transaction.One of my early professional positions was General Counsel and Director of Business Affairs at USA Basketball. Ever since I left that organization, I’d missed working in the world of sports. In 2017 I had the opportunity to advise a very promising student athlete who was anticipating a professional baseball career. That triggered my third entrepreneurial venture, Nesbitt Sports Management, Inc.No one can manage and oversee three firms in three disciplines without a passion for what they do, tremendously talented associates, and a supportive spouse (a talented attorney in her own right). Thankfully, I’m blessed with all three.
