As a Democratic Fellow, my roles include providing Members of Congress and their staff with expert human rights information as it relates to assigned areas of responsibility including Brazil, Venezuela, the Dominican Republic, and LGBT rights protections in Central America and the Caribbean. I develop strategic partnerships with local and internationally based human rights defenders, NGOs, and government officials to address a wide range of international human rights issues. I represent the Commission vis-à-vis foreign government officials, bi- and multi-lateral organizations, and all executive agencies of the United States and entities of the United States Congress. I work on organizing briefings and hearings concerning individuals and entities whose internationally recognized human rights have been or may be violated. As necessary, I draft letters to the White House and Department of State which promote human rights initiatives.
Paralegal
As a workers' compensation paralegal, I leveraged my strong interpersonal and communication skills to ensure that my clients received the benefits that they are legally entitled to when they have been injured on the job resulting in their inability to return to work. Some examples of this included filing requests for further action with the New York State Workers' Compensation Board in order to address outstanding issues on any given case. I constantly communicated with doctors' offices, insurance carriers and attorneys to ensure that these claims proceeded as smoothly as possible. More importantly, I communicated with and listened to the needs and concerns of my clients. Managing over 340 claims, it was important that I implemented my strong ability to multitask and organization skills. I was also responsible for settling cases for clients who have reached maximum medical improvement but who still sustain permanent injury to their body.
Research Assistant
In this position I worked with Immigration & Naturalization Attorney, Ana Siscar, becoming acquainted with asylum law in order to assist with the building a case for an unaccompanied minor. Part of my responsibilities included outlining and researching pertinent questions concerning the case and helping to prepare a legal brief. In addition I met with the client and their family, helped to translate affidavits and also attend court proceedings for the case at the Hartford Federal Court. Other duties included conducting preliminary screening and interviews with clients and assisting in preparing Violence Against Women Act petitions (I-360), Citizenship Applications (N-400), Employment Authorization Applications (I-765), and DACA Renewal Applications (I-821D).
Research Assistant
For the Spring 2014 semester, I work with Dr. Joy Gordon of the Philosophy Department at Fairfield University to cite check manuscripts for publication in academic journals including the Yale Journal of International Affairs. In addition, I search electronic databases in the social sciences and humanities to contribute to the research of colleagues in partner institutions in Latin America.
Senior Interviewer - Office Of Undergraduate Admissions
As a senior interviewer, I met with applicants and discussed their interest in attending Fairfield University. I wrote an evaluation for each meeting and presented suggestions on candidates' appropriateness at Fairfield. In addition I interacted with admissions counselors and provided additional feedback and information on candidates as needed.
Student Director Of International Immersions
In this role, I work very closely with Jocelyn Collen, M Div., campus minister for international immersions. I have developed a brochure that highlights the international programs Campus Ministry offers in the 2013-2014 academic year. I also help to organize and lead the information sessions for our four programs and organize the interview process with our interviewers and interviewees. I make myself available to meet with students interested in the programs whether it be at information sessions, activity fairs or by appointment.

I manage the transportation of students to the service learning site, Cesar Batalla School, which is in Bridgeport, Connecticut.
