Eric Saunders is a shareholder in Bernstein Shur’s Business Law Practice Group. He has a varied background in general business law, including participation in corporate takeover battles involving Maine-based public companies, representation of parties in shareholder and partnership disputes, and counseling of businesses on a wide range of matters from governance to executive compensation.During the 1980’s, Mr. Saunders represented developers, syndicators, and securities firms in the syndication of real estate projects, including federally subsidized housing projects. More recently, Mr. Saunders has applied his syndication experience to the representation of clients in the acquisition of limited partner interests in mature limited partnerships. As part of this representation, Mr. Saunders and his litigation team have successfully brought both individual and class action lawsuits in a number of jurisdictions on behalf of limited partners seeking to protect them from general partners who have breached their fiduciary duties through self-dealing and other improper acts.Mr. Saunders’ health care practice covers both the regulatory and transactional sides of health care, including mergers and acquisitions. Mr. Saunders applies his experience of over 35 years in advising business clients to the counseling of health care providers with respect to the strategic and financial challenges presented by this rapidly evolving industry. His varied health care experience includes the representation of hospitals, physicians (individuals as well as group practices), dentists, denturists, physical therapists, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, pharmacy chains, and drug treatment programs. Mr. Saunders has been recognized in both Chambers USA and Best Lawyers in America for his corporate law work.
