I am a systems administrator for a law firm that handles a 125+ user network that is basically Microsoft on VMware VSphere 6.0. The law firm serves a high security, finance focused clientele that requires PCI-DSS level compliance without the actual legal requirement to do so. Prudence and conservatism is the better approach in all cases with our business model. Our philosophy is to lock down the data and assets, then provide access on an as-needed basis. This is all done in an effort to meet and exceed the annual audit requirements of our bank clientele.My security+ certification drives the focus toward providing the law employees access to the apps and sites they need while limiting their access to sites that could allow for data leakage. For example, no employee has access to Microsoft OneDrive, Google Drive or Any other file sharing app. This philosophy pervades our IT infrastructure and decisions. We approach every access to data request with the principle of Least Privileged Access. It’s not a matter of whether we can provide access, but wheter we should.Aside from the security aspect, I focus on storage utilization and optimization on EMC equipment. This aspect of storage management is cross-platform, as I have managed storage on HP, EMC and other third-party platforms. The whole process boils down to the archiving process for me. My philosophy is to keep active data where it belongs, and other data on the tier that it belongs to. It all comes down to the cost of data, and allocating it to its proper cost level.

I am an experienced Systems Administrator that is currently managing a data center that is used as a technology showcase for HP, EMC, Oracle, and VMWare Technologies. I managed and implemented the design, configuration and deployment of these technologies, so that this lab met EMC Platinum level requirements. This involved a substantial investment in, and incorporation of EMC solutions, such as Isilon, VNX and Avamar. The network portion of this project involved Brocade and Arista switches that could tie this lab into the existing lab , but still allow for the performance increase that these switches could provide utilizing 10G paired connections.Of course, VMWare was a very large of making all of this new Platinum lab happen. Many of the EMC appliances and VMWare solutions were implemented as VM solutions, so as to optimize resource utilization. vRealize Automation and Operations Manager were a big part of taking advantage of the ViPR framework that was put in place as part of the EMC lab. This automates the creation of VMs, and the allocation of resources without the need for intervention of a Sys Admin that still meets corporate guidelines.
