In my role I am responsible for the stewardship of current and prospective members of the Library's legacy society and work to effectively articulate how each person can best support the mission of the organization through the pledge of a deferred gift. I manage a portfolio of several hundred constituents and am responsible for securing pledges of support by bequest and through the funding of life income gifts. This requires familiarity with PG Calc software and the ability to draw up Charitable Gift Annuity and Remainder/Lead Trust illustrations and contracts.I also advise the Planned Giving department on best practices regarding the implementation of research and cultivation methods for prospective legacy donors. This includes working closely with our data management team to qualify prospects by capacity and inclination to give. This work informs our decisions regarding selection criteria when preparing large scale prospect outreach by both direct mail and through digital channels.I am principally responsible for tracking all active estate matters and engage in regular communication with representatives to ensure that each pledge is moving towards fulfillment. This requires a nuanced understanding of the probate process and an ability to parse related documentation, including estate accountings and testamentary documents. It also requires familiarity with the process of liquidating Transfer on Death (TOD) accounts.

My principal responsibility is the cultivation of prospective donors who are candidates to make gift pledges in the form of bequests or by designation of a TOD account. In tandem I am the chief point of contact and responsible for stewardship of over 1,000 legacy society members that reside across 47 States, The District of Columbia and Canada.Stewardship and cultivation requires the management of a targeted direct mail program which ensures that each supporter receives quarterly updates from my department, invitations to gatherings and notification of animal rescue efforts close to their respective locations. This effort is supplemented by in-person visits and regular correspondence by phone. I organize and perform individual donortours of our campus facilities to help solidify relationships and make clear the tangible impact of each donor’s current and pledged support.In addition, several times each year I organize and present at seminars at select locations around the country we title “Protect your Assets, Protect your Pets.” The purpose is both to discuss Animal League America’s Safe Haven Surviving Pet Care program and provide as a free resource to our donors the opportunity to meet with professionals from the estate planning and financial services community.This position requires familiarity with PG Calc software and the ability to draw up Charitable Gift Annuity and Lead/Remainder Trust illustrations and contracts. I am responsible for preparing my own donor research utilizing Wealth Engine, Donor Search and Peoplefinders. I also supplement the research efforts of the development officer in charge of grant writing which requires familiarity with Foundation Research Online (FDO).Some Major Gift solicitation for general operating expenditures and capital campaigns is required. I regularly secure gifts from society members for “wish list” items, which are high priority devices and items requested specifically by our medical and shelter staff.
