Senior Game Writer

Current

Madrid, Es

As the company's sole game writer, my responsibilities are wide-ranging, from script writing to character bios to mapping skills. My primary focus so far as been producing compelling narratives and bios for the existing cast of characters in the project -- and, as a side effect, also designing large portions of the world, its organizations, and the conflicts therein.

Dec 2023 - Present

Senior Game Writer

Herzliya, Herzliya, Il

After my promotion, I was shifted onto the company's flagship projects: Mech Arena and RAID: Shadow Legends.Mech ArenaJust before MA was released, I conducted an audit for all of MA's text and tutorials, to make sure they were clear. I managed the documentation and handled the team of 4 other editors in our hunt for UI ambiguity. Once we presented our findings to the MA dev team, I implemented the suggested changes myself.Once MA was released, it was positively received, and we moved to the next stage: introducing characters to the game and clarifying the world. I compiled our existing narrative materials and fleshed out the universe.Next I had to create the characters. I was given a slide deck of character designs and their countries of origin, then the rest was up to me. Names, backstories, relationships, future plans, sample speech, ages, even sexual orientations.I also continued to work as the game's chief Technical Writer and UI Proof.RAID: Shadow LegendsAfter training up a replacement for my work on Mech Arena, I shifted over to working on Raid. My primary goal there was to establish a long-standing IP that could potentially be used to fuel future projects and growth. It began with a total rework of the game's lore bible, which then went through multiple edit passes and expansions. But that was only the beginning. With the groundwork completed, I created a confluence wiki and populated it with organized references to each and every character in the game -- hundreds in total. I redesigned the game's world map and created descriptions for every major location. I created a complete timeline of the world's history, including hundreds of events. I wrote player-facing bios for dozens of characters, cross-referencing them with historical events. My work on this project continues, and it continues to challenge and delight. It is one of the most comprehensive worldbuilding projects I've ever embarked upon. My work will guide Raid lore for years to come.

Game Writer

Herzliya, Herzliya, Il

During my first two years in the company, I worked on a huge variety of game projects, as well as a large number of non-game technical writing tasks. This period of my career was defined by improvisation, learning, and flexibility.I worked on the following projects:Stormfall: Age of WarSoldiers Inc.Sparta: Empires at WarStormfall: Rise of BalurSoldiers Inc. MobileMech ArenaLost IslandFor all but Lost Island, I spent most of my time pouring over UI flowcharts and spreadsheets of strings, determining what each button should say and how each tutorial should read. Here's a rough breakdown of my responsibilities for the Strategy titles:- Named new units- Developed thematic wrappers for new features and named all the resources associated - if we were lucky, we told the icon artists what the resources would look like. We were not always lucky. You would not believe the number of names we came up with for what amounted to rolls of paper.- Put together lore reference documents for SINC and Stormfall, compiled out of unit descriptions, newsposts, old documentation, and other random sources.Mech Arena was a little different:- Named new Mechs- Named new features and associated resources - this would lead to the audit above- Named all the Weapons - testing showed that the weapon names were confusing, so I went through several rounds with the project director to fix the issueLost IslandI was mostly a dialogue and story editor here. No new features came out for LA, but the narrative moved ever-forward, so I worked with the primary writing team in Israel to look for narrative and character inconsistencies, as well mishaps in the dialogue. Sometimes this meant drafting and presenting large swathes of alternate dialogue for the writing team.Other WorkI also contributed generally to any technical english writing the company needed, from drafting job vacancies to be posted on our portal, to reviewing internal company-wide news updates.

Tech Teacher

Smart With Art

I focued on teaching game design and 3D modeling skills to elementary school kids in an after-hours workshop environment. We use Kodu and TinkerCAD as our principle programs, and we also would 3D-print the results of the modeling projects using Sculpteo. In addition to teaching, I also did maintenance work on the mobile labs (each case was a dozen laptops or so) used by all of the tech instructors working for Smart With Art, and served as an administrator working with databases during registration season.

Sep 2015 - Dec 2016

Writer/Designer

Bellevue, Washington, Us

I was hired to work with REGW's team to help them design a product that could help fulfill the requirements of a Real Estate Broker's two-year license renewal education credits. This product presented the user with numerous educational modules, including quizzes at the end of each module. Completing the quiz correct rewarded resources.I wrote the modules based on expert resources, then refined my work by interviewing subject matter experts and by performing independent research. I also designed the quizzes, and dipped into game design by working out the rate of player progression through the game's reward systems and RPG mechanics.

May 2016 - Jun 2016

Teacher'S Assistant

Redmond, Wa, Us

I graded essay and lab report submissions from students, searching both for simple grammar and syntax errors as well as logic or reasoning deficiencies. I worked on a team of 6 to 10 others to manage the workload, though we worked relatively independently on our given segments. After several years, I was promoted from Grader to Lead TA, where I was responsible for managing the team and organizing our grading systems, improving productivity and grading consistency.

Sep 2012 - Apr 2015

Lead Activities Coordinator

Redmond, Wa, Us

I participated in Digipen's summer children/teenager workshops, called Project Fun. I was a Lead Activity Coordinator, which divided my responsibilities into two areas:First, maintained the functionality of the ongoing educational workshops. Each workshop had a teacher, and if that teacher needed something it was my job to get it for them. This mean moving and supplying material, managing bureaucratic issues, tracking students, and putting out fires.Second, I was also responsible for the improvement and maintenance of Project Fun's "Name Tag Game," a complex metagame similar in execution to a collectable card game. I did content creation, systems design and balancing, and narrative development for this game alongside a team of several others. When I began, there was no narrative aspect to the game's design or operation. When I was finished, the game's narrative and themes were an inextricable component.Unfortunately, because we were unable to train our replacements in the following years, the NTG died out. It was a sobering lesson in the importance of documentation. We had a lot of development materials left for our replacements, but none of it explained our workflows or long-term goals, so it was impossible to pass on our production legacy to the people who came next.As one Lead among 5, I was expected not only to perform the above roles, but also organize the rest of the Activities team, which fluctuated from 10 to 18 members.
