I have researched, written, edited and supervised publication of booklets outlining the legislative agenda for Baptist Health System (now Brookwood-Baptist Health) annually since 2013 session, individualized for affected legislators to reflect payroll and employees in their districts. I helped research, write and edit a national report on judicial campaign financing, The New Politics of Judicial Elections, 2011-12. I was lead researcher on the 2015-2016 edition of the biennial national report. I have monitored campaign media and spending in judicial elections nationwide for the Brennan Center for Justice and Justice at Stake since 2014. I researched and wrote a fair-courts toolkit targeted at national advocacy groups for ReThink Media's fair courts campaign, distributed nationally by the Piper Fund. I covered several beats while at The Birmingham News, including growth, development and government in Hoover; the Jefferson County Commission and the state courts beat. Courts touched on everything from crime to official corruption, state takeover of Birmingham schools, election issues, judicial politics and campaign financing, capital punishment, incarceration issues and state funding.When I could I wrote about food: cooking, chefs, restaurants -- including restaurant reviews.

I covered growth and development in the counties surrounding Columbia, and how the economic boom of the late 1990s was affecting these suburban and rural communities. Prior to that I was a freelance government reporter at The Herald in Rock Hill.

I covered several beats for the newspaper, but specialized in courts and capital punishment. I was bureau chief in Warner Robins for two years 1988-1990.

I wrote most of the bylined stories, took photographs and helped lay out the weekly newspaper. Before this job, I was an intern for the company's main paper, The Decatur-DeKalb Sun.
