My first internship, Lockheed, was completed before I entered Civil Engineering as my major. My role was to improve training techniques by replacing and uploading assembly manuals to a new computer system. I saw this a huge step into the engineering world as a whole. The office experience was critical to give me the context of how to be successful as an engineer. At ECS, I was a Site Inspector and conducted soils compaction, concrete, and geotechnical tests. This was my first job in a true civil engineering environment. It familiarized me the construction side of the field, and allowed me to work hands on and in close collaboration with workers on a construction site.
