For many years I was employed with the City of Belleville. I have been responsible for the care and swimming instruction of many people with ages ranging from 6 months old to 90 years old. As a lifeguard I was also responsible for the maintenance of a safe chemical balance in the pool area. In the role of shift supervisor I was given more responsibility in making sure the staff were well organized and everything was running efficiently. It also highly improved my communication skills as I was often dealing with the public; in happy and irate conditions.I was also a camp leader for 2 years at the City of Belleville "Stars of the Stage" day camp. Here I was given the duty of organizing a complete drama program for children aged 6 to 14. We did a production at the conclusion of every two weeks. The challenge with this camp was the incorporation of both outdoor and indoor activities, ranging from crafts, to dramatic games to sports. I was also required to educate many leaders in training along the way in the summer.While I still substitute when required (including beyond the time period listed), I am not here as often as before.

I began my employment at the YMCA of Belleville as a volunteer. I dedicated many hours each week to volunteering in the pool with swimming lessons. After obtaining my qualifications I joined the staff. Similar to my position at the City of Belleville, we were required to maintain a safe and respectable environment. I instructed infants to adults on swimming skills and aquatic safety. When I was lifeguarding, I was required to maintain safe chemical levels as well as enforce the rules of the pool. Whether teaching or lifeguarding I was constantly communicating with the members and visitors of the Belleville YMCA. This was an extremely positive experience because I learned to communicate with people of all different cultural, social and religious backgrounds. The YMCA was a very diverse location and it was an amazing experience to get to know each of the members as individuals.
