Lead internal tools development team as product owner and technical lead. Working with managers across the company to design and implement solutions to various business challenges. Western Milling buys and sells agricultural commodities, manufactures feed for large customers such as dairies, and has consumer brands sold in feed stores. It also has various subsidiaries such as a trucking company and commodity trading group.* Built a truck dispatching system working in multiple roles. Designed the system with business managers and then implemented it with two developers I was managing in Ruby on Rails, React and Postgres.* Designed and implemented robust exporting system for dealing with 3rd party APIs that frequently have errors* Eliminated legacy applications using the strangler fig pattern. Speeding up on-going development.Maintained and technically supported production applications running on Heroku and AWS

Worked with two other developers building out replacement for legacy internal software system integrating into various third party software systems* Implemented salesperson order entry and calendar system in Ruby on Rails and React.* Lead internal software side of the business’s ERP transition from legacy system to new system of internal tools integrated with 3rd party accounting and manufacturing software.* Maintained and technically supported production applications running on Heroku and AWS

Worked with two other developers building out an ecommerce platform specialized for shipping perishable foods from restaurants across the country.* Rebuilt checkout application using Ember.js. Designing it’s backend connection as a public API for future applications and 3rd parties to hook into.* Wrote a shipping calendar system that takes a large number of dynamic conditions into account to calculate out delivery days so customers can easily choose between all available viable delivery days for the specific product they are ordering.* Worked closely with the product manager to implement features needed to achieve business goals.Used Responsive Web Design to deliver the same HTML to mobile and desktop users with appropriate display for the device being used* Maintained and technically supported production application running on Heroku.

Petaluma, Ca

A startup that pioneered microinverters for converting photovoltaic solar panel power from DC to AC. I work on their Enlighten product which takes in information for each solar panel and makes it available for solar installers, consumers and other partners. Enlighten has over 40,000 sites reporting in energy data every 5 minutes.* Wrote a replacement for a Flash power visualizer (called Array Viewer) in JavaScript using HTML5’s Canvas 2d Context. Had to handle power animation of up to 2,000 solar panels at once using 5 minute interval data. Also implemented panning, zooming, and an overhead view. (screenshot)* Worked on a team with 4 other software engineers on the Enlighten web application.* Upgraded Enlighten (with over 25k LOC) from Rails 2.3 to Rails 3.0. * Used Test Driven Development with RSpec and Rails * Assisted on the company’s first iOS application that makes it easier for solar installers tomap their solar systems.

* Built a specialized SaaS Wedding CMS called Wedding Jojo (http://www.weddingjojo.com/) and maintained it for 2 years. Hosted on Heroku, using S3 for filestorage, Postgres as a relational database, HAML, SASS * Wrote a theme customizer for Wedding Jojo using JavaScript to change CSS propertiesand images for a live preview * Wrote a direct to S3 File Uploader for Wedding Jojo using HTML5’s FileAPI. It uses no flash, has a progress bar and gets around Heroku’s timeouts by uploading directly to S3. * Built a social sharing site targeted at woman called Is That Odd (http://isthatodd.com/). Used HTML and CSS techniques to create a graphical heavy interface that would traditionally been created using Flash. Ran on Heroku using Postgres as the relational database and file storage with S3.

A startup that uses Amazon’s mTurk to transcribe audio files. I worked remotely for them handling their customer support requests.* Wrote a JavaScript utility to clean up transcripts in programmatic way. * Worked with co-founders to help improve interfaces to help Amazon’s workers betterunderstand the tasks. * Wrote a special Flash audio player that could be set to automatically pause after so much time for workers without foot pedals to pause the audio. * I helped design some new tasks and instructions for their contractors on Amazon's Mechanical Turk. This included a lot of brainstorming and Customer UX thinking for how to help these workers do higher quality work.
