Honesty and integrity are meaningful to me. I spent a few years in an organization that didn’t have a moral compass consistent with mine. As a result of those experiences, I decided that life was too short to work for a company that didn’t share my sense of right and wrong. This basic premise led me back to ANOVA furnishings. A company started by my father in 1970, which I knew was grounded in a basis of honesty and integrity.Today, as the CEO of the company, I work to create alignment between what we are trying to achieve as an organization and what each of our associates are trying to achieve for ourselves on an individual basis. Like every job I’ve held before, it has its moments of challenge, success, confusion and clarity. Like most leaders, my best days occur when my team brings great ideas to the table and drives them to completion.ANOVA operates in an interesting space in the market. Our products may appear expensive on an individual unit basis, but they are frequently small line items in large budgets. This makes for an interesting environment. That process involved everyone in the organization and there was definitely a feel good moment upon completing the work. Living this culture day to day has proven to be the greater challenge. We get better every year and continue to build on a strong foundation. Other highlights of my tenure thus far include rebranding our core business, and supporting the manufacturing team in Missouri to achieve an OSHA SHARP designation from the state. Thus recognizing it as one of the safest and most safety conscious places to work in our industry.

While overseeing manufacturing, I introduced a balanced scorecard approach to managing physically remote operations. This brought focus and clarity to what was important to the manufacturing teams and allowed them to improve on key metrics related to safety, quality and productivity. On the new product development side of the business, I worked with the team to install a stage gate process to help bring new products to market more efficiently. We also focused on bringing more contemporary furniture designs to our customer base that still maintained a broad appeal to the market. Since leaving this position, the teams have continued to make exciting improvements to the foundation I helped put in place. -

Various PositionsLandscape Brands Jan 2002 - Apr 2008Saint Louis, MoI moved through a series of positions learning many different aspects of the business over these 6 years. The work included starting at an IT help desk, and moving into marketing analytics. From there I stepped up to Circulation Manager, making decisions on which catalogs to send to which customers and prospects. I briefly stepped back into an IT role to help with an overhaul of our enterprise software. Upon completion of that I worked through a major upgrade to the old Upbeat website that culminated in a new site going live in early 2007. Since then the site has been taken apart, put together a couple different times and vastly improved by other teams.
