Eric Gilman is a fisheries scientist whose research focuses on: methods to mitigate and manage fisheries bycatch of threatened species; inputs for evaluating alternative bycatch management strategies; ecological responses to pelagic marine fisheries and management interventions; fisheries electronic monitoring systems; and abandoned, lost and discarded fishing gear. He is a Senior Fellow with The Safina Center and Director of the Fisheries Research Group. He provides advisory services to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, The Nature Conservancy and fisheries associations and companies. Previous employers have included the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN), National Audubon Society, and Office of the Governor, Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands. He has a PhD from the University of Tasmania School of Geography and Environmental Studies, Australia; MSc from Oregon State University Department of Oceanography, USA; and BA from Wesleyan University, USA.
