• Provides inpatient utilization management for both medical and surgical services, including participation in rounds offering guidance on transitions of care• Performs concurrent and retrospective review of inpatient cases to determine appropriateness of levels of care and transitions of care to facilities such as Acute Inpatient Rehabilitation, Long Term Acute Care Hospitals, and Skilled Nursing Facilities. • Performs Prior Authorization review for select IPAs with no current Medical Director Support, or cover IPA Medical Directors who are on PTO/leave of absence • Provides advice to the quality management area with respect to quality improvement committees, peer review committees, and credentialing committees. Performs peer reviews on quality complaints, sentinel events, and quality-of-care referrals• Performs primary care assessments (medical record document reviews). • Supports internal case management, utilization management and social work teams, both individually and in IDT setting• Serves as a primary clinical educator and mentor, and facilitates achievement of appropriate patient care goals through guiding Nurses/Directors in the job they do and conducting peer-to-peer communication with practicing physicians when required• Participates in weekend telephonic coverage serving to support Directors of Medical Management when physician-to-physician discussions are required, or guidance in level of care determination, including transitions of care to LTACHs and IRFs.
