I have a passion for giving back and the Indianapolis community. I am a journalist at heart, and previously wrote for The Indianapolis Recorder from 2001 – 2007, I covered topics from the Indiana Pacers to an award-winning series on the historic Ransom Place neighborhood. I leverage my own experience and passion for connecting people, I hosted the first Father/Daughter Dance inside an Indiana prison facility in 2014 as a one-off idea to reunite families. I noticed the incredible opportunity to edit the very prison system itself, I became a voice for the voiceless within incarcerated men and their daughters. Blossoming into what is now the You Yes You! Project, I have made significant strides in the reduction of recidivism in Indiana and has connected more than 60 daughters with their incarcerated fathers through programming including father/daughter dances, Halloween parties, book clubs, workshops, and more. I was one of the recipients of United Way of Central Indiana’s inaugural Social Innovation Funding, my goal is to rethink and reshape the prison system and its impact on bothering fathers and young girls.
