From an early age I have been passionate about airplanes. I used to love going to airshows every year with my family and watching in awe as the various fighter jets seemed to effortlessly dance through the sky. As a child, I didn't understand how planes worked, but I wanted to find out. All through elementary, middle, and high school I knew that I wanted to be an Aerospace Engineer. I studied Mechanical Engineering at Brigham Young University, but I looked to satisfy my hunger for airplanes at every turn. I distinctly remember during my first year at BYU working in the airplane lab until the early hours of the morning working on my RC airplanes. I tailored my classes to focus on my interests in aerospace. I was able to take classes in aircraft structures, aerodynamics, flight mechanics, CFD, and highspeed gas dynamics. It was in this last course that I learned what I really wanted to do for the rest of my life. I don't know if it was my innate "need for speed" or the breath-taking Schlieren images, but I was hooked. I started researching into supersonic and hypersonic flight as much as I could. My love for aerodynamics blended perfectly with this new love of highspeed flows. During my last year at BYU, I was selected to participate in the Boeing AerosPACE capstone project where I was part of a multi-university team tasked with designing, building, and flying a UAV to help identify survivors of hurricanes and floods. I recently graduated from the University of Southern California with a Masters of Aerospace Engineering. While at USC I was able to focus my studies on aerodynamics and highspeed flows. I took more courses in CFD, aerodynamics and both incompressible and compressible flows. My time at USC culminated in the successful completion of the conceptual design of a supersonic business jet. This project allowed me to use all of the engineering tools and analysis that I had learned throughout my collegiate career to produce something that I loved. This project allowed me to show a younger version of myself that now I did know how planes worked and I was ready to help build them.I am now looking to take that initial curiosity, which lead me to develop the skills that I needed, and finally achieve my dream of being an Aerospace Engineer. Not only am I passionate about everything aerospace, but I will work relentlessly to accomplish whatever task I am assigned.
