Software Engineering Smts / Product Owner / Ux / Syseng - Infrastructure Engineering Productivity
San Francisco, California, Us
75% Developer, 25% QE/UX/Ops, for 6 months I was the interim Product OwnerWorked with 5 people as the lead engineer to develop a web app used to run and collect networking and infrastructure level tests to make sure that our infrastructure is built correctly, continues to run correctly, and is easy to identify the root cause of issues when they come up. I specifically gathered the requirements, worked with the customers on the prototype, drafted the system architecture, and coded the Web stack using Java, Spring, Jetty, Java Caching Service, Web Sockets, Angular, Polymer, Bootstrap, and jQuery.Built dashboards to display metrics showing the current state of our infrastructure and offering trends (predictive analytics) and recommendations (prescriptive analytics) based on 3, 6, 9, 12-month projections. Used by the infrastructure planning team to understand if and when the company will run out of capacity, what options are available, and how likely they are to solve the problem. It is currently providing information updated multiple times a day which used to take analysts 2 - 3 weeks to compile.Created HTML5 / Spring MVC web-based tools and Spring Batch based tools for configuring server infrastructure to reduce the number of manual tasks that the TechOps teams need to do. There is a heavy focus on security, automating tasks, and providing smart defaults based on environmental and historical data. We are projecting a 50% reduction in human entered errors, a 50% reduction in time to execute the workflows, and less time to train new employees who are using the systems. As the product owner, I work with the infrastructure and feature teams to figure out when and where they are spending time doing manual tasks because of infrastructure changes or inefficiencies. Based on the findings I work with the teams to create stories/requirements for my team to build new tools/tests to automate and remove the processes that are slowing people down from completing their jobs.
