Working for a very large multi-national Geosurvey company (Gardline Geosciences), producing a heavily engineering orientated Geotechnical training course for offshore operators – While constructing a framework for core competencies which will feed back into the company’s strategic business plan for aggressive expansion. All with a view to raising the company profile worldwide.• Carry out a full training needs analysis of current training function, with a full report of findings to company director.• Construction of a core competency framework for International accreditation raising the standard of the engineer across all disciplines.• Constructing the framework to change the pay structure and competency level of the engineers within the company.• Production of guidelines and framework for HR management of engineers.• Preparation of a complete training solution for the Geotechnical engineers within a much larger organisation, covering course design (blended learning), gap analysis (field operations) and where possible online course development with external partners.• Aiming to achieve external validation through Edexcel at initially Btec level but aiming towards Foundation Degree for all offshore engineers.• Direct interface with subject matter experts (SME’s) to complete course content: includes Cone Penetration Testing apparatus, penetrometers; load limits, thrust capacities as a sample, but also includes all safety related training associated with working offshore including cranes, winches and hydraulics as example.• Production of all technical documentation to follow the students offshore as a reference document both in hard form and soft form (Engineering CD) and workbooks to fastrack engineers into the offshore business.

Working for a small but very specialised company: (Cobham Surveillance), producing high level SIGINT products being delivered to a worldwide Law Enforcement and National Security market.• First and foremost carry out a full TNA process; with a full rewrite and restructure of high level training, full input from SME’s within the field to maximise knowledge transfer.• Customer interface into the company with initial pre-sales technical demonstration of intercept (SIGINT) equipment around the world.• Delivery of Operational demonstration to Law Enforcement and National Security organisations across the globe including recently added countries by the FCO.• Preparation of a complete training solution covering both theory and practical applications from various customer locations around the world.• Course content includes very high level GSM and 3G theory and its application specifically across the air interface – production of technical documentation both for training operators and technicians.• First and second line support both at customer locations and back within the engineering function: Day to day business includes, whilst in office, first and second line support, either over the phone or using remote function into customer equipment and hands on.• Delivery of training and customer facing to find technical solutions to engineering problems and requirements capture for next generation equipment – RF over fibre etc.• Extensive International travels where training and engineering support is delivered both for the equipment and to vehicle fits where lengthy acceptance testing is undertaken.• Full Field Trial of each software release and Field Acceptance Test of equipment across software, hardware, functionality, power, voltage and RF mapping etc.

Employed as a training consultant and technical trainer, both systems and theory, in the training and development centre of a Government SATCOM Station.• Full use of the TNA process to produce a modular training solution with direct interface to SME knowledge where applicable.• Training and development of agency personnel including 2nd and 3rd party, covering a variety of high level systems across the standard E1/n64, including Digital Communications Multiplication Equipments (DCME/PCME), down to bit robbing within each 64 kbps time slot. • Digital and Analogue embedded data streams covering GSM/GPRS/UMTS, VoIP, packet switched and circuit switched networks including TCP/IP and many other OSI model protocols. • Intelsat Standards IESS308/IESS309/IESS310/IDR and IBS, various systems incl Thuraya, Iridium, Inmarsat etc including associated protocols and error detection and correction codes such as Reed-Solomon / CRC / Block codes / Trellis etc.• Daily tasking includes carrying out training requirements, training needs analysis, customer liaison and course production and delivery and systems evaluation, extensive use of computer based training (CBT – HTML) and blended learning, • Trials and Field acceptance tests for all deployable new and current satellite systems going out to both military and civilian users – both intercept and communications packages.• Conversant with the Systems Approach to Training (SAT) and validation methods.

As part of the Defence Special Signals School: (Now Defence College of Intelligence) - Managed a busy section of 6 highly skilled tri-service instructors delivering Complex Signals Theory both in relation to communications and non communications.Responsibilities: Training and development of military personal including fundamental RADAR theory (ELINT and EW within the C4ISTAR remit). DSAT compliant instructor working within the Training Needs Analysis process.Produced the Foundation Collection Course to be delivered to all Royal Signals, Royal Navy and Royal Marines Signals Intelligence Operators. Through life product management of the course from requirements capture to individual lesson production for both complex theory and ELINT (IWSC) and all relevant paperwork 308 50 minute lessons for intercept operators across all three services. Scoping Studies, Terms of Reference, Training Gap Analysis, Training Options Analysis, Course Design, ISPEC writing and Course Delivery including Training Evaluation.

As part of a busy Multi-National and tri-service section I was responsible to the Training Manager for all software and hardware upgrades to be reproduced as courses within the already written material as well as managing the multi-national collection system.Responsibilities: Involved in the Project Management, (Requirements capture), process for a multi national, multi million pound collection system in order to integrate the new system into the working environment.Liaising with external agencies as to the requirements needed including security risk assessment and a thorough understanding of JSP440 Comsec and Risk Management, including production of Standard Operating Procedures for the new system and all technical documentation.Maximising the QOS by dynamically assigning the bandwidth supplied to the system using a partial dynamic voice compression system giving a good trade off.Use of Unix, DOS & Solaris based digital signal processing packages for signals analysis.Use of the ancillary hardware: - high grade receivers, spectrum analysers, oscilloscopes signal generators, frequency discriminators, demodulators and de-multiplexers.Providing specialist complex signal's collection instruction, utilising LAN/WAN technology to operate high-grade communications equipment's, whilst monitoring bandwidths and ID allocations to remote sensors worldwide, using both Hardware and Software Receivers.
