Responsibilities included specification, design entry, PCB layout supervision, board bring-up, design verification test and introduction to manufacturing. Specified and implemented Xilinx CPLD and Spartan 6 series logic designs. Support sustaining engineering and part change requests for infrustructure products.

Allocated serial port signals on MPC862 Power PC device, designed, implemented, performed functional verification of Altera 10K30 glue logic FPGA. Completed board level bring-up. • Identified and resolved design issues, minimizing work interruptions and downtime impact to affected departments by performing technical and sustaining support for MPC860, MPC750 and AMD 29K based router platforms. • Reduced impact to internal and external customers by identifying design or component characteristics that changed in behavior due to supplier variance after production release for router products.• Equipped hardware, quality engineering and manufacturing groups to complete on-time delivery of new platform option module, as well as provided additional platform configuration flexibility to end users by developing drivers for HSSI / T3 and multiport, high-speed serial modules using GNU tool chain.

Hardware Design / Sustaining Engineer; Specify, design, implement, test and support components of ICL and Datachecker retail point of sales systems.• Specified, designed, implemented and performed bring-up of NEC V.40 based electronic journal (system audit trail) to address growing number of end of life components as well as reliability issues with existing mechanical journal implementation. • Identified and resolve critical ESD issue with front cash register which caused spurious register reboots resulting in significant increase in system reliability and customer satisfaction. • Acquired knowledge of ICL PC based POS terminals, performed product validation and new product introduction support. Resulted in smooth product launch and minimal change requests during early product installation.

Hardware Design / Sustaining Engineering; Specify, design, implement, test and support components of Datachecker retail point of sales systems. Specified, designed, implemented (including 8051 assembly language programming) and performed bring-up of system level control panel for cost reduced back end point of sales controller. Specified and implemented diagnostic features resulting in improve field service capabilities. Provided field and manufacturing support for release products: Identified and resolved meta-stable timing condition in bit sliced CPU design which caused intermittent system crashes by synchronizing cross clock domain signals. Identified and resolved potential back charging condition in lithium battery backup circuit. Identified and resolved critical rubber-band memory timing issue in high performance head per track disk sub-system controller.

Worked with worldwide Field Engineering team to resolve product issues that exceeded field diagnosis capabilities. Acted as liaison between field and in house engineering teams by collecting data and performing lab tests prior to handoff to design/sustaining engineering teams. Developed Tech Bulletins and Product Briefs to provide proactive support information to Field Engineering organization. Developed and implemented Datachecker's first remote assist center. Provided immediate second tier support directly to customers with critical, often system down conditions. This support often allowed the remote assistance center to work with a customer to restore partial or complete system operation prior to a dispatched field engineer arriving on site.

At customer sites, maintained Point of Sales systems consisting of backroom controllers, registers, scanners, printers, scales and displays. Perform preventative maintenance, repair or replace marginal or faulty components in field installed equipment. Subject matter expert in field alignment of optical UPC scanners. Troubleshoot problems to board/component level, repair or replace per field engineering guidelines. Communicated re-occurring field failure information to Product Support for further investigation and preventative action. Performed weigh scale calibration that was subsequently verified and sealed by a state inspector.

Maintained Varian Ion Implanters. Maximized production up time by performing preventative maintenance and real time problem diagnosis. Problem resolution required diagnosis of complex electronic (analog circuits, digital logic, microcontrollers, low through high voltage power supplies [5V-200KV], mechanical, pneumatic and high vacuum systems.
