About Eric Wilbanks

I’m a ā€œseasonedā€ professional with more than 30 years of experience in applying the principals of education and psychology in both for- and non-profit contexts.I attended Lee University where I double-majored in Christian Education and Psychology. Since that time, I’ve worked in radio as a DJ, in pastoral ministry (mostly youth ministry), in the publishing industry as a writer, editor, and product developer, in training & development as an eLearning architect, and in brand development and marketing, advising and assisting local, national, and global brands. Today, I am the Director of Brand Development, Marketing, and Communications for Boys & Girls Clubs of the Ocoee Region, an organization with 17 Clubs spread across six counties in southeast Tennessee. After a pretty rough start in life—nearly dying four different times in 14 years—I was radically saved in the summer of 1984. Since then, I’ve done my best to live my life by what I believe are the fundamental aspects of what it means to be a disciple of Christ: Know God (John 10:14), Live for God (John 8:31; 14:15), Love others (John 13:34-35), and Bear Fruit for the Kingdom of God (John 15:8). I haven’t arrived yet. I’m still a daily work in progress.I have a lot of interests in things that don’t normally go together (and am genuinely disinterested in things that typically do go together!). I love Christian praise & worship music, but I also love 80s rock and metal, 80s funk, and 70s disco! I grew up in the DEEP south but I hate country music. I’m fascinated by nature, especially birds, but I don’t care at all about outdoors activities like camping, hunting, fishing, etc. I played multiple sports as a kid, trained in martial arts as a young adult, and exercise regularly as a 50-something … but I rarely ever watch any sports or attend sporting events (exception: I LOVE baseball). I have a ā€œuniqueā€ fashion sense that is part Duckie Dale (Pretty in Pink), part Caddyshack preppy, and part steampunk wizard. I don’t drink, cuss, or smoke. I’m a true ā€œtea-totaller,ā€ meaning I only drink water and hot tea. I love psychology, education, and marketing, but my biblical worldview often puts me at odds with many of the things that are taught in those disciplines. All that to say: I’m a bit odd. I’ve even been called a ā€˜Wizard of Odd’ … a moniker I actually appreciate! So, if you’ve read this far and aren’t scared off, let’s connect! You can also check out my podcast, ā€œBetter Mind, Better Life,ā€ (available everywhere) which explores the fascinating insights of psychology viewed through the lens of Scripture!

Listed skills include Editing, Social Media, Public Relations, Graphic Design, and 34 others.

Director Of Family Ministries

Destiny Church Orlando, Fl

Orlando, Florida Area

I defined the family ministry of Destiny Church as a "Home-Centered/Church-Supported" ministry that enabled the home to be the center of faith formation. It consisted of activities that directly or indirectly (a) developed authentic, intergenerational relationships in the congregational community by encouraging the adoption of one another as family so that no Christian was family-less (Matt. 12:24-50; John 19:26-27; Psalm 68:5-6a); (b) used that community as a safe place to care for, equip and support Christians who use their families as a channel of ministry to others within and outside the community of faith (Heb 12:1; Eph 4:11–16); (c) encouraged healthy family relationships through programming that united children, youth, and young adults with their families inside and outside the church (Mal 4:6); and that (d) increased the Christ-likeness of the family relationships of Christians (1 John 4:16-21). In essence, as Director of Family Ministries I was responsible for raising up the teaching gifts in the congregation and equipping adults to effectively transmit the Scriptural faith to others in accordance with II Timothy 2:2. The task includes teaching parents to effectively communicate the faith to their children (the "nuclear" family), and teaching adults how to disciple others in the intentional ministries of the church (the "extended" family). This included the weekly development of single-themed, age-appropriate curriculum for each member of the family unit.

Youth Pastor

Church Of God And Others

Southeast, United States

From the moment I graduated high school until I joined Strang Communications in 1999, I was involved in youth ministry either as a volunteer, part-time, or full-time worker at congregations throughout the southeast: Alabama, Tennessee, Florida, and North Carolina. My primary emphasis was on discipleship and strategy-building. I was a graduate of the Sonlife Strategy (for Growing a Healthy Youth Ministry) Basic and Advanced One levels. The thing I'm most fond of was a program I created for developing teen leaders. It happened in the summer, included a "boot camp" type discipleship experience, and had students doing all sorts of service-oriented projects while also studying scriptures related to servant-leadership and ministry.

Eventually, I created a daily late-night show (10pm-midnight) called Club103 playing Christian HotAC and CHR. Went by the name "Nick Donovan." Co-host was "Kaitlyn Taylor" (who, fun fact, is now my wife of multiple decades). When RX107 launched in Chattanooga (WJRX, 107.9fm), I took on a weekend shift using my given name, Eric Wilbanks. After RX107 sold, I switched to a weekend shift at WBDX "Talk-fm 102.7" doing a shift on the "CCM Sunday" show.
