As both an M.D. with training as an anatomic/clinical pathologist and a senior software developer, data modeler, architect, I bring a (possibly) unique perspective to the field of medical informatics. My main interests involve transforming the medical record from series of narratives we tell about the patient, to a well modeled set of data which have a proper time component and are ontologically characterized. This is a necessary step before we can realize the potential of medical informatics in such areas as value based care, personalized medicine, and data based clinical and translational research.I have experience with small startups (including my own) and large companies. I've led small local teams and large geographically distributed teams. I love to combine knowledge of technology, medicine, the markets and my experience with the limitations inherent in most software development organizations to create proper strategies for bringing minimum viable products to market as well as create long term roadmaps for software product lines.I also excel in sales situations. I can speak the language of the professionals and explain in detail how the technology will help them in their work. I can speak the language of the IT people and help them see how a product could be configured to work in their environment.I am above all a practical skeptic who is not afraid to stand by realistic projections. If your policy is to follow whomever gives the most optimistic projection, I'm not your guy. If you want someone who can tell you what can be done now (and how to prepare for the future) and then get it done...I might be your guy.
