Some people are born artists or musicians, I believe that I am a born engineer. As long as I can remember I am fascinated by how things work; what makes a clock tick, why do bridges not fall down, how to tune-up my engine? Those kind of things. StudyStudying mechanical engineering was a given. Once I began to understand some of the mechanics, the next question was how to do things in a better way. After all, everything you see is either the product of nature or of engineers, where engineers almost never achieve the level of perfection found in nature. Present25 years ago I found my ‘niche’ in our composite D-glide® bearings. The possibilities of D-glide bearings are enormous, but back then hardly anyone knew how to properly utilize them to the maximum. We had to find out virtually everything while doing, an exhilarating expedition that is still ongoing today, though we have already learned an awful lot along the way. This enabled us to make bearings for the largest observation wheel in the world, the highest loaded hinges, the deepest submerged joints, spherical bearings that lift the heaviest offshore platforms and many other unique and challenging projects, including skid planks underneath Formula 1 racing cars. In fact, we derive some of our inspiration from nature, our D-glide bearings are not unlike the cartilage in our joints, similar principles apply. And as in nature, one of our working principles is that a good design should also look good, take one proper look at a dragonfly and you understand what I mean.Inspired by my story and passion for engineering?
