I joined the Council in 2017 as the inaugural program assistant for the Scholarly Borderlands Initiative. This program has a broad scope, and aims to incubate new interdisciplinary projects in the social sciences that bring together diverse teams, build scholarship and cross-institutional networks, and benefit academia and/or the public. Alongside the program director, I worked to establish the mechanisms that make up this program as well as to research new projects and people to bring into our portfolio. I now organize, manage, and support the activities of a portfolio of working groups exploring a variety of research subjects, ranging from the "social exposome" to social uncertainty during extreme weather events. I have experience coordinating small workshops, conference panels, and publications on the SSRC's Items forum. I also support the program by assisting with external communications, travel arrangements, budget management, research, calendar management, and expense processing.As of 2019 I am a Program Associate, a title that reflects additional responsibility as incubatory projects develop into larger initiatives that seek funding of their own. Additionally, leveraging my previous environmental experience, I participate in an inter-program initiative at the Council that aims to build a program focused on social science and climate change. This involves program design, funder research, and grant writing.
