I have always been interested in solving puzzles. I remember one of my favorite things to do when I was younger was to tear through books of logic-grid puzzles trying to figure out if say Ryan ate spaghetti on Wednesday and Nancy had pizza on Tuesday, when did Chris eat a burger. Important questions like that. As I got older I wanted to solve bigger problems. It was one of the main reasons I went to school for engineering and has remained a driving factor in my career choices. I love to solve problems, but I never used to put computer programming into that category. It always seems vague and almost magical. Even as I delved into the inner workings of quantum mechanics in undergrad, programming seemed beyond comprehension to me. Although I had worked in several very rewarding positions, I still felt that none of them were quite the right fit. Then in 2016 I took an online career quiz that said “Software Engineer” as my #1 fit. That week I started teaching myself HTML and CSS. A friend told me about the Launchcode training program for people looking to get into programming and it was there that my passion really took hold. I can honestly say I love what I do. I love finding the best way to create a feature or fixing a nagging bug in the code. I love finding new and interesting libraries and building off of what others have already done. I am one of the lucky ones. I get to wake up every morning and do what makes me happy.
