I am an outgoing, curious, and data-driven individual. Given my problem-solving nature, it was no surprise that I was drawn to scientific research. I had the great opportunity to get my feet wet with bench work in molecular virology and immunology starting my freshman year of college. From there, I lead my own project in the lab throughout all four years of my undergraduate Biology degree. Upon graduation with my BS, I jumped headfirst into research as I pursued my PhD in Immunology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Even with my dedication to the pursuit of knowledge, I never thought I’d make the discovery in graduate school that I did—a PhD wasn’t the degree I needed to pursue the types of careers I’m truly interested in. I discovered more of a passion and knack for communicating science to a wide range of audiences. Going forward, I aim to bring my years of technical lab experience along with my enjoyment of written and verbal scientific communication onto my next step—perhaps that is joining your team?In addition to my academic and laboratory responsibilities, I have served as a Senator in UAB's Graduate Student Government, where I additionally served as a member of the Social Activities and Budget committees. I've also served on the executive board of GRADient, an LGBTQ+ organization for graduate and professional students at UAB, since 2019. Serving as the Communications Chair, Vice President, and eventually, President of GRADient has allowed me to gain extensive knowledge of what goes into managing and leading an organization/team. I've also gained experience with outreach, education, and advocacy, as GRADient continues to be involved in community service and spearheading initiatives to help make UAB and Birmingham safer and welcoming of diverse cultures, identities, and backgrounds. All this to say, I enjoy working with people to achieve a common goal. I listen to and value different perspectives in any pursuit, but I am not afraid to advocate for my own ideas, as well. I think collaboration and diversity strengthen the value an impact of any job done.
