My passion for the environment has definitely come from spending time outdoors as a kid. My family and I would spend a lot of time camping, hiking, fishing, and more. As I got older and began to understand the environment more in depth, I knew it was something I wanted to dedicate my life to. I am currently a student at Illinois State University and I am studying Environmental Systems, Science, and Sustainability. While I have only been studying at this university for 2 years I have already picked up some skills I feel may be useful in the environmental field. I know the coding languages python and R, as well as the software arcGIS. While spending time outdoors is always of interest to me, I also like making intrapersonal connections and communicating with others around me. I have experience with this as I have worked many jobs in order to put myself through college. These jobs include working as a referee, a coach, at the campus dining hall, in an office, and at a movie theater. I have gathered skills in communication, critical thinking, time management, and more through my time at these jobs.One of the most impactful environmentally related experience I had in my life was visiting the country of Iceland. They get almost 90% of their energy from geothermal power plants. Beyond this fact, the citizens of this country are just more environmentally conscious and it was a beautiful thing to see up close. The scenery here was incredible as well. In the future I would love to travel and visit as many countries as possible. I would love to work at different locations around the world. I would also love to conduct field work and get hands on experience in the world of Environmental Science.
