In this role, I am responsible for supporting communication of Adults in the Gordon County by collating and producing County Newsletters. This involves seeking information from Advisers and District Commissioners for inclusion in newsletters, helping to promote PR guidance to Guiding members in the County and supporting local, County, region, country and UK activities. I assemble all of the information that I collate into a well structured and formatted newsletter and send this out to members of the Gordon County to a strict deadline. In this role I provide advice and guidance on Communications within the County and give support to my colleagues in the MarCom team as required.

Working in a fast-paced environment has taught me how to work well under pressure. With multiple tasks to carry out and many guests to cater to at any one time, multitasking and time management are essential skills. Ensuring adequate time is shared between all guests and the service is provided within a reasonable timeframe has allowed me to form strong skills in this field. Through working with multiple employees to ensure guests have an enjoyable experience, my ability to work well as part of a team has become well founded. Applying my strong verbal communication skills to both working within this team and to upsell items and form relationships with guests has helped me to excel within this role. With years of experience within this role, my attention to detail and confidence in engaging a variety of people in conversation has formed a strong skill set that I am excited to transfer into the PR industry upon completion of my final year at university.

I actively sourced a placement in Sydney, Australia for full service communications agency Cardinal Spin. This internship provided me with the opportunity to use my skills developed within an academic setting in a practical, dynamic work environment.Key tasks included collating media coverage for clients and using CRM systems to form lists of potential contacts to invite to events and exhibitions. Furthermore, sourcing new potential contacts and adding these to the CRM system was an important part of this role allowing me to become proficient in using these systems, excel spreadsheets and powerpoint.Another task undertaken was creating interesting and creative social media posts for clients. I was able to use my written skills developed through university to generate appropriate posts for Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. These skills were heightened through the opportunity to draft press releases and liaising with journalists regarding media coverage.I was provided with the opportunity to work for a specific client in their head office, showing that my ambition and strong work ethic were recognised and appreciated. Through working for Sydney Film Festival, my main responsibilities included pitching to media outlets for potential coverage. This required an ability to think on the spot and use strong interpersonal communication skills to persuade these outlets to promote the events. Throughout this internship, I was provided the opportunity to attend multiple events and witness how these events are formed, carried out and controlled. This helped to increase my understanding of many elements and aspects of planning and executing successful events and provided the opportunity to help achieve these. The opportunity to work for a successful PR agency has helped me to form a strong skill set for this industry and ignite a motivation to work within the PR industry upon completion of my degree.
