My father is a red-seal certified chef. During my life, however, he's mostly worked as a carpenter. Even after a long day of work, he'd take time to cook delicious meals. When my father serves food to my mother, he never just throws it on a plate. He places it intentionally, adds whatever topping may enhance it (a drizzle of olive oil or crack of black pepper), and often adds a garnish. This care is lovely to witness. As I grew up, I began to recognize the significance of this act. Food is a practical thing. People need to eat to function. However, with a little intention and creativity, food becomes a thing of beauty and an act of hospitality and care. I was born and raised on Vancouver Island, BC. I have spent my life around makers: artists, carpenters, and entrepreneurs. In a way, they have all done the same thing: combine function and beauty. It is this conjunction of function and beauty that drives my work to this day. For the past 7 years, I have worked and volunteered in collaborative spaces. In these spaces, I have had the opportunity to practice hospitality and care through leadership, curating spaces and activities, and marketing. I search for the opportunity to add function to beauty, or beauty to function. Currently, I work as a Social Media Manager for Bowden Carpentry & Woodworks LTD, an Administrative/Marketing Assistant at MAGNA Engineering Services Inc, and also am developing my technical administrative skills as a first year Office Professional student at SAIT.
