I Have a Dream Foundation is for at risk/low income youth to help get them through school and into college. The youth start in 2nd grade and if they complete the program through high school, they are given a scholarship for college. They are also exposed to cultural activities, field trips, after school programs, homework aid and help in classes they might other wise not get. The program not only works with the youth but also the families by bridging the language gaps, acting as a liaison to the administration and helping them be a greater part in their child's education. In hoping to accomplish all this, IHAD employs sponsors, program leaders and AmeriCorps to run the program. I was part of the team who worked with the youth in grades 7-8.
