About Ernest Lara

Passionate about Open Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Translational Research. I am the program manager of Catalyst Europe, a biomedical innovation program organized by a consortium of European universities, hospitals and industry partners that implement a methodology focused on optimizing the results of translational research, developed by and in collaboration with MIT linQ (Massachusetts Institute of Technology). I am supporting ACTION Innovation Network (association of incubators in New England, US) in developing a strategy to support international companies in their process of building a presence in Massachusetts. Prior to Catalyst Europe I led a business unit that supports scientific and technological innovative projects, startups and organizations from all over the world by connecting them with Boston’s innovation ecosystem, the main hub for Life Sciences and Cleantech (at Richi Foundation, a Boston’s based nonprofit organization).I participate as a jury member in MIT Innovator under 35 and Pulse@MassChallenge. MBA (Esade Business School), Master in Project Management (La Salle) and Telecommunications Engineer (UPC).

    Catalyst is a methodology for needs identification and opportunity development, and an organizational model that fosters a vibrant multi-stakeholder community. Catalyst mission is to increase the potential that biomedical research will lead to products that address unmet health care needs. The Catalyst methodology starts with a hands-on entrepreneurial program for PhD students and postdocs (Fellows) who would like to accelerate the impact of biomedical research. In this immersive experience, participants identify and evaluate unmet medical needs, build multi-professional teams to design solutions and plan R&D projects that show strong potential for healthcare impact in collaboration with industry and hospitals.Catalyst Europe is the European version of Catalyst. A consortium composed of European academic, industry and hospital partners run the program and guide participants through the Catalyst process.
