I grew up in Washington, DC (my father was an educator at Howard University), went to a segregated high school, and was the fourth member of my family to attend Harvard University, before traveling around the world as an educator, explorer, and communicator. I’ve advised senior levels of government in Europe, Asia, and Africa. Having spent 10 years as Dean of the Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism at the University of Southern California, in 2017 I left that position to start the Center, under the University’s banner.
